Absolutely everyone was laughing out loud through the whole of “The Heat”. The giggles, belly laughs and guffaws might falter a little in a flabby middle bit, but they come back with a vengeance in a truly hilarious final section.
It’s such a predictable premise. Prissy by-the-book FBI agent Sandra Bullock meets foul-mouthed and earthy Melissa McCarthy. They have to work together to bring down a drug lord. Can they do it?
Paul Feig directs this super comedy with great style. While it’s Bullock and McCarthy’s show, Jane Curtin, Demian Bichir and Marlon Wayans all offer deft support in key moments.
The look of it is all very pretty but it’s the physical comedy that will keep you enjoying it all. It’s much more than “Bridesmaids” meets “Police Academy” and – just for once – a movie that’s billed as a comedy actually is very funny.
I adored it as did the audience at Stratford Picturehouse. I hope the DVD comes out by Christmas as it will mean I have a really super film that I can give to absolutely everyone. Both Bullock and McCarthy have huge comic talent. Let’s see a sequel to this adorable movie.
