Glorious 3D, lovely acting and imaginative concepts make this a very enjoyable film to watch. It’s closer to the ideals of the novel than most movie versions of the Peter Pan story.
It starts out in Oliver Twist territory with young Peter (a super debut from Levi Miller) suffering at the hands of sadistic nuns in a ghastly institution for orphans.
Within minutes we are soaring among WW2 airplanes and bound for Neverland.
Director Joe Wright keeps the action moving quickly. Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara and Adeel Aktar are all terrific.
But the star of the show is the best 3D I’ve ever seen. The scenes in the air are just magical. And the fairies? They will wow you.
Ignore anything negative you’ve read or heard about “Pan”. My Very Intelligent Friend and I both liked “Pan” very much.
If you care about Peter Pan, do see this. It’s very beautiful.
And you will never see Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” used quite so imaginatively.
