Bone Tomahawk

An extraordinary movie reinvents the Western, thanks to fine acting, writing and directing. S. Craig Zahler is a new director and writer to me, but the stunning originality, struggle and darkness of the old West is brought to life and feels real to watch.

Kurt Russell is absolutely excellent as Sheriff Hunt. You can’t take your eyes off him.

Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox and Richard Jenkins are all very good, as is David Arquette, in a smaller part.

The less you know going into this, the better. The twists and turns are fantastic. My attention never strayed through the more than two hours.

Westerns are too few, as a modern genre but the struggles and decisions here are timeless.

This is a must-see movie for fans of the Western. But everyone I know who has seen it was very impressed by this.

I saw it at Stratford East Picturehouse. Sections are very violent and hard to watch. But it’s brilliant and it’s a compelling and unusual tale.
